Cancer of the Breasts | |
Women are well aware of the seriousness of having lumps in their breasts. However, not many know that not all lumps are cancerous. If the lump is benign, only the affected tissue in the region is removed; if is malignant, then the entire breast might have to be removed. One symptom of cancerous lumps is deformity in the breasts or nipples. For post-menopausal women, any discharge from the nipples, especially if there is blood, indicate the beginning stages of cancer. Most cancers are painless in the early stages. If there is a lump and it is painless, it is possible that the lump might be malignant. Early self-examination or examination by a doctor may help prevent the illness from worsening or even cure it.

The most common breast problem is inflammation. Cracks to nipples and injuries to breasts cause inflammation. Generally, the nipples and the surrounding region are affected first, after which the infection spreads to the entire breasts. Symptoms include tenderness, pain and swelling.
